A mid-size BMW sedan equipped with a diesel engine returned better fuel economy on a 545-mile, London-to-Geneva, run than a gasoline-powered Toyota Prius. A BMW 520d with a 2.0-liter diesel engine and regenerative braking (but no heavy duty hybrid features) got 41.9 mpg while the full-hybrid Prius, 500 pounds lighter, got 40.1 mpg.Whole story here.

This is probably surprising to alot of people. Also people need to consider that most hybrids are so over priced that it will take you years in gas savings to re-coupe the purchase price.
Better yet everyone, buy a cute scooter

So true - imho, a far better usage of hybrids is to add power to what we have … rather than save us pennies.
Lexus is doing it the right way.

comes as no surprise to me. Hybrids are a waste of money. They’re slower than snails, they don’t give exceptional mpg, they look horrendous, their battery life is minimal, their repair costs are ginormous. Whats the point of owning one??

Hopefully as technology in this area develops it’ll bring the price down and make it more practical. I’d love to live a more “green” life but flat out it’s all just too expensive!

hybrids are just a step in the right direction, electric cars are without a doubt the best solution to the efficiency/greenhouse problems. They are several times more efficiënt then normal engines.
